The 2024 Fashion Forward Gala set new records in both attendance and fundraising, securing essential resources that will enable Mercado Global to continue its innovative efforts to empower women across the Americas. These funds will help women create brighter futures for their families and communities, perfectly aligning with the mission of Instituto Xilonen.

Mercado Global: Transforming Lives in Latin America

Founded in 2004, Mercado Global embarked on a remarkable journey with a mission to transform the lives of Indigenous women, their families, and their communities across Latin America. Through its nonprofit model, Mercado Global weaves together vital components of monetary support, education, and access to the global market, equipping women with the tools they need to achieve financial independence.

Instituto Xilonen’s Collaboration with Mercado Global

Instituto Xilonen (IX) has proudly collaborated with Mercado Global to empower underserved artisan Guatemalan women through a series of transformative workshops. These workshops, aimed at exploring contemplative practices, self-reflection, and spirituality, nurtured the holistic well-being of the women artisans.

During these gatherings, IX’s Founder, Mayra Hernández, and Board Member, Alexandra Guzmán Ibáñez, introduced a practice known as inner work. They invited the women to engage profoundly with their mind, body, and spirit, guiding them on a journey of self-discovery. The workshops emphasized the significance of connecting with one’s inner self and building trusting relationships with others.

Additionally, the workshops addressed various ways to meditate, helping the artisans manage stress, anxiety, and discomfort effectively. Meditation techniques were shared to promote inner peace, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Sigamos Aprendiendo: An Online Wellness Series

The online workshop series, “Sigamos Aprendiendo,” was thoughtfully designed to promote wellness and spiritual learning among Mercado Global members. It served as a platform for artisans to explore their body, mind, and spirit alignment. These sessions provided a safe and nurturing space for women to engage in meaningful contemplation, self-reflection, and inner work. The combined workshops added more than 3 hours of content and had more than 20 attendants per session.

The collaboration between IX and Mercado Global exemplifies the power of inner work, self-reflection, and spirituality in empowering underserved artisan women. By offering these workshops, IX and Mercado Global have enriched the lives of these women and provided them with the tools to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and inner strength. This partnership serves as a testament to the profound impact that holistic well-being and contemplative practices can have in transforming the lives of individuals and communities, aligning with Mercado Global’s mission to empower women in Latin America.

Mayra’s support and involvement went above and beyond. The women at Mercado Global’s office in Guatemala have deeply appreciated the time she spent with them, sharing her knowledge and insights on leading healthy, fulfilling lives.
