Mercado Global: Transforming Lives in Latin America

Founded in 2004, Mercado Global launched on a remarkable journey with a mission to transform the lives of Indigenous women, their families, and their communities across Latin America. Through its nonprofit model, Mercado Global weaves vital components of monetary support, education, and access to the global market, equipping women with the tools they need to achieve financial independence.

Instituto Xilonen’s Collaboration with Mercado Global

Instituto Xilonen (IX) collaborated with Mercado Global to empower underserved artisan Guatemalan women through three workshops. These workshops aimed to explore contemplative practices, self-reflection, and spirituality, nurturing the holistic well-being of the women artisans.

During these gatherings, IX’s Founder, Mayra Hernandez, and Board Member, Alexandra Guzmán Ibáñez, introduced a practice known as inner work. They invited the women to engage profoundly with their mind, body, and spirit, guiding them on a journey of self-discovery. The workshops focused on the significance of connecting with one’s inner self and building trusting relationships with others.

Additionally, the workshops addressed various ways to meditate, helping the artisans manage stress, anxiety, and discomfort effectively. Meditation techniques were shared to promote inner peace, resilience, and emotional well-being.

Sigamos Aprendiendo: An Online Wellness Series

The online workshop series, “Sigamos Aprendiendo,” was thoughtfully designed to promote wellness and spiritual learning among Mercado Global members. It served as a platform for artisans to explore their body, mind, and spirit alignment. These sessions provided a safe and nurturing space for women to engage in meaningful contemplation, self-reflection, and inner work. IX The combined workshops added more than 3 hours and had more than 20 attendants per session.

The collaboration between IX and Mercado Global exemplifies the power of inner work, self-reflection, and spirituality in empowering underserved artisan women. By offering these workshops, IX and Mercado Global have enriched the lives of these women and provided them with the tools to navigate life’s challenges with resilience and inner strength.
